Qualis Health, Saint Luke’s Health System and Saint Alphonsus Regional Medical Center are pleased to announce the Annual Patient Safety and Healthcare Quality Improvement Conference on April 15 and 16, 2010 at the Doubletree Riverside Hotel in Boise. As in previous years, the Qualis Health Awards of Excellence in Healthcare Quality will be presented to providers in various categories who have made significant contributions through innovative, measurable improvements in healthcare. This year’s award categories are Patient Safety, Quality Improvement, Health Information Technology, Patient- and Family-Centered Care and Improving Communication. Topics to be considered include, but are not limited to, medication safety, infection prevention, MRSA, surgical safety and the implementation of tools such as error reporting, root cause analysis and proactive risk assessment that demonstrate measurable results. This training program was developed to help the licensed nurse who works in an assisted living facility to prepare for this area of practice. It is and has been recognized by personnel in Idaho’s State Department of Health and Welfare, Idaho Board of Nursing, administrators of assisted living facilities, members of the Idaho Health Care Association-Idaho Center for Assisted Living and members of the Idaho Nurses Association of Assisted Living that many nurses do not know the role and responsibilities of the licensed nurse working in assisted living. This kind of preparation is not part of the nurse’s basic education. Many nurses are hired part-time and are expected to know what to do from day one. The purpose of this training program is to prepare the licensed nurse with the knowledge, skills and, desirable attitude to be successful in this vital and growing industry.
